The Big Blue Cafe is a wonderful place for breakfast or brunch!
We arrived on a late Sunday morning after church with our tummies grumbling for some killer breakfast. We had the entire tribe with us, a table for five, which to our surprise was immediately available by happen chance upon our arrival. The Big Blue Café is a very homie space with huge windows allowing patrons to gaze out onto the Arcata Plaza just across the street to the west.
The host greeted us with a kind smile, took us to our seats, then promptly asked us what we’d like to drink while we browse the menu. Her professionalism was remarkable. We chose our drinks, coffee with crème for me, water no ice, and the rest of the tribe made choices I frankly can not recall writing this review. The coffee was delivered long before I had decided what to order which was very nice to sip and enjoy while I weighed my options.

With inside and outside dining The Big Blue Café in Arcata CA has a place to eat for anyone. If you like to dine while hearing the birds chirp atop the background chatter of a bustling city square, they’ve got you covered. If the coastal weather is a little chilly for your liking you can dine inside, where they keep it nice and cozy when the outside environment is chill-prone. The checkerboard tile flooring adds a very cool old-school vibe to the entire restaurant taking you back into the 1950s but still managing to stay modern.

Due to the experience being an overall smashing success, we felt compelled to reveal the fact we’re doing a review and ask to meet the chef and take photos of the kitchen. Unfortunately, they declined our request though they thanked us for the kind words and for writing the review. We completely understand under the circumstances we hadn’t informed the restaurant in advance. Many of the kitchen staff were indeed wanting to take the opportunity to show off their kitchen, but they didn’t prepare themselves for a photo shoot that morning! My wife had the utmost sympathies for their position.
In conclusion, our time at The Big Blue Café was worthy of our most enthusiastic support and review. Their food was amazing. The staff welcomed us and kept checking in to make sure we were happy. All of the food arrived at the exact same time at a perfect temperature, with absolutely exceptional plating. When we revealed the fact we were reviewing them and how well they had done, their response of happiness mixed with humble humility was a very remarkable way to be. Indeed the kitchen crew all the way up to the front of the house deserves a round of applause as well as consistent business going forward.
The addictive quality of their food is likely to produce these results. Great job to The Big Blue Café!
