Freedom of Conscience and Religious Liberty Conference is A GO!!

The Freedom of Conscience and Religious Liberty Conference has been relocated to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ferndale, California after the Bear River Casino and Resort canceled the event despite deposits being made. The Bear River Casino says this is due to words Bramwell said in a YouTube video that hurts their feelings and therefor they felt justified in effectively discriminating against him based on his religious and political beliefs.

Where this would typically be against the law in California, the Bear River Casino, like most all Native Reservations, are considered sovereign territories belonging solely to that tribe. California law effectively does not apply. However, we find it curiously hypocritical for them to cancel this event, one that would have obviously brought the tribe revenue and the ability to express their grievances directly with Bramwell and St. Marks officials.

Instead of acting like adults and treating their business like a capitalist’s enterprise, they chose to not only cancel this event long after it was paid for and scheduled, because that’s frankly how they roll. I can not blame them for acting like Nationalists, in fact I totally support their being able to do this and cancel this event, because it is their Nation, not ours. With that being said, shouldn’t the local left be demonizing them for their apparent nationalism, or does that only apply to folks with pale skin?

“After agreeing to rent us the Tish Non Room and providing a block of [hotel] rooms for our Freedom of Conscience and Religious Liberty Conference, scheduled for October 28, 2023, the Wiyot Tribe [sic] Bear River decided to return our deposit and release our rooms,” the post says. “The Tribal Chairman cited complaints about Pastor Bramwell’s public teaching as the reason for their reversal.”

Lost Coast Outpost goes on to list off St. Mark’s and Pastor Bramwell’s achievements in a way I am certain he smiled and wears as a badge of honor:

Bramwell’s public messages, posted to the marquee outside St. Mark, have demonized the LGBTQ+ community repeatedly as well as female pastors, abortion, “woke America,” drag shows and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Statement from Bramwell

Below is a statement directly from Pastor Bramwell and St. Mark Lutheran Church on this matter

While Bear River Casino & Resort was fully aware of who they rented their conference room to (St. Mark Lutheran Church), after receiving our deposit and confirming our lunch menu, etc., they made the choice to bar us from renting their venue for our Freedom of Conscience & Religious Liberty Conference. They refused to cite any particular reason for this decision, even though we repeatedly requested a specific explanation. “Cultural sensitivity and respect” was their repeated terminology. Plans to move the conference are underway.

St. Mark Lutheran Church’s first Freedom of Conscience & Religious Liberty conference! This event has been organized as a service to our neighbors on and near California’s North Coast. St. Mark Lutheran Church has been under attack from those hostile to the truth of God’s Word for over two years. We know we’re not alone. Our goal is to encourage and equip others to remain faithful to the Lord even though institutions and individuals exercise their influence to silence Christianity and take away our freedom of conscience and religious liberty.

The conference is from 9 AM to 1 PM and includes lunch!

Rev. Dr. Adam Koontz is our guest speaker. He has served Christ’s people as a church planter and as a professor at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. He serves as pastor and evangelist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Denver, CO. He can be heard on the popular podcast, A Brief History of Power. He will be speaking on Christian duty to others in these hostile times.
