Philadelphia law enforcement are investigating the placement of a pipe bomb reportedly found behind a Catholic church in Holmesburg, Pa. on Sunday afternoon, but no suspects have been announced by police.

City police sources told Fox29 about an 18-inch pipe bomb discovered after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday behind St. Dominic’s Church, located on the 8500 block of Frankford Avenue.

Officials said the bomb, reportedly found by a passerby, consisted of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe with capped ends and had black powder on it.

Police shut down a section of Frankford Avenue as the city’s bomb squad was called in to handle the device, according to Fox29.

The bomb squad eventually removed the pipe bomb from the area and cleared the surrounding streets of any danger.

No other details were shared.

This news comes just one day after Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell of Los Angeles was fatally shot inside his home in the Los Angeles County suburb of Hacienda Heights. That incident is being investigated as a murder by local authorities.
