The U.S. government proposed a “Political Declaration on the Responsible Military Use of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy” that encourages countries to follow international law and ethically use AI conflict.

The U.S. released the non-legally binding guidelines at the Summit on Responsible AI in the Military Domain in the Netherlands last week.

“A principled approach to the military use of AI should include careful consideration of risks and benefits, and it should also minimize unintended bias and accidents,” the declaration states.

The State Department said it believes the declaration could “serve as a foundation for the international community on the principles and practices that are necessary to ensure the responsible military uses of AI and autonomy.”
